I am excited that you have undertaken to beautify the community and to seek community input for the project. I envisioned an elegant toast to the past - and current - natural beauty of the location, the Sage, Toyon, Sumac, Oak, and Stipa grass with superimposed images of the area's transition through the impact of indiginous peoples, trailblazers, Spanish land grantees, the sea trade, statehood, the railroad, the film industry and Palm Trees, Mullholland and the water deal, The Red Line Street Car, The Hollywood Hotel, Tomato fields and oil fields, the racially descriminatory laws of 1860-1910 , the Hollywoodland sign, the population explosion through immigrating New Californians, the African American jazz clubs, waiver and legit theater
a, Armenian influx, Beachwood Market, Norwood Market, Victors, The decline of Hollywood and Sunset Blvds, The closing of neighborhood schools, the addition of two school sessions at some, etc.
In the midst of this community pride, I noticed a note that your artist was already selected. A little disappointed that the community could no longer have the option of contributing to the art, I went to the link to see if I knew the artist (Having been raised here, I know a few). I was surprised to see the choice was of an artist who specialises in stereotypical graphiti art. This is neither the best image of Hollywood as a community nor very beautiful graphiti in it's own right. Perhaps the vision could be redeamed by using an image which al least begins with a beautiful scenic landscape technique, and morphs into the last 30 years of Hollywood (represented by the last 20 feet of wall) painted in the kinetic chaos of the chosen graphiti artist. I hope that this turns out to be the wonderfully unifying project that it could be. Putting up something ugly, though, will just alienate the residents who have pride in our town and don't appreciate the support of the negative elements of drug distributors, street gangsters and their culture. It is much more effective to present the positive contributions of all diverse people to the strength and unity of our unique Los Angeles Foothills culture. Thank you for this opportunity to comment,

PLEASE have a committee of successful PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS to choose what goes on your wall.

Many....many "community art projects" are so un-beautiful that they actually deface the building.

Proceed with CAUTION.....AND BRAVO FOR YOUR GOOD INTENTIONS to Beautify Hollywood.

This is wonderful news! I am so excited. Please, everyone stay tuned for ways the surrounding community can be involved in creating the design.
